#WEBENAIJA

YOUR VOICE IS POWERFUL

About the project

Webenaija is an African media platform, born out of the will to give those directly affected by an issue, survivors and grassroot activists a fair narrative about issues affecting them. Our aim is to contribute to awaken the consciousness of the African youths by developing and distributing stories that affect and shape life in the motherland. We want those directly affected by an issue to have their own side of the story reflected in the bigger picture narrative. People who face a particular issue are often talked about but not heard. With the era of technology, everyone has a smartphone and everyone can tell their side of the story.

Want the world to hear your voice? Here is how it works.

  • Send video, audio or text about the issue affecting you or your community.
  • Send video, audio or text about the issue affecting you or your community.
  • We make sure people get to listen. You now have a tool to promote your voice.

With Webenaija you can share your perspective and how a particular issue affects you. Our editorial team gathers your material sent, streamlines the content, finds similarities with and synergies to other content shared. The end result is a well-crafted journalistic report published through our diverse publishing outlets on social media, including this website and those of our partners/influencers. We are a group of digital experts, contents developers and activists. This platform is a part of our media group - Joadre.

Ways to partner - Donate, share, volunteer

This is an initiative that is developed and managed by Joadre team volunteering at their free time. We need funds, partners and more support to create and distribute content. If you would like to partner with us on any topic, kindly contact [email protected]. If you are a distributing platform or have access to a large audience, we would be extremely happy to discuss collaboration. Write to [email protected]. to contact us.

As digital technology helps African youths to tell their stories from their perspective, our platform uses a cinematic documentary approach to spotlight authentically the voices of victims, survivors, directly affected and on-ground activist. We are raising funds for our first project #endsars story. We want victims, affected, survivors, and activists to have their own voice reflected in every event. Webenaija is a social platform to share these first-hand sides of the story that is often ignored. Users can send us their side of the story and we create a journalistic content to promote diverse perspectives.

Useful Questions

Please read through our Q&A to get full details of what we do and how it works.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

Webenaija is an African media platform, born out of the will to give those directly affected by an issue, survivors and grassroot activists a fair narrative about issues affecting them. Our aim is to contribute to awaken the consciousness of the African youths by developing and distributing stories that affect and shape life in the motherland. With the era of technology, everyone has a smartphone and everyone can tell their side of the story.

WHAT IF I DO NOT WANT TO BE RECOGNISED IN THE CONTENT?

After we evaluate content and we intend to use it or you become the protagonist in the finished content, we contact you via the email address and telephone you used to send us the content. We would discuss these issues and see what measures for masking is suitable for you.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH YOUR CONTENT?

We gather as much information from the public about specific topics. We evaluate all content sent. After which we conduct further research about the issue. If needed, we might source for more footage to be able to tell the story and create a fair narrative about that issue. With our background in cinematic, we develop a documentary-styled story which becomes ready for distribution. As a young platform, our distribution channels rely on influencers, traditional distribution and new media streaming.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN DISTRIBUTION?

We encourage those protagonists in each story or those who feel moved by a story to also organize their own screening opportunities which we co-sponsor. We hold life online screenings to premiere every content.

DO I GET PAID FOR SENDING CONTENT?

It is our uttermost journalistic approach not to pay you for your content because we want the content driven by the passion and actual incidence of the issue at hand. However, in the case that a distributed material generates publishing and license fee, we are obligated to distribute a fee to all contributing protagonists. However, we launch incentives and social media campaigns where contributors can win a prize for participation, not for the content.
