Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

What is SEO? This is a question you get everytime in the digital business world. Or maybe you have heard the word SEO and wondered what it means. In this free blog training series, we will walk you gently into the world of SEO. Our goal is to allow anyone who isn’t internet savvy to build a digital business. SEO means Search Engine Optimization. A Search Engine is an internet tool that allows you to search. If your digital business requires that people find you, you need to optimise your SEO. Read further to find 3 major strategies to begin with SEO.

What Is SEO – Search Engine Optimization?

It is an abbreviation for Search Engine Optimisation. Over the last decade, the internet has rapidly grown. People can now own equity and build a business. The internet is a vast network that connects computers all over the world.  It is with the internet that you can read this article now. Through the Internet, people can share information and communicate from anywhere with an Internet connection. And for those creating a digital business, know that “Digital” describes electronic technology that generates, stores, and processes data.

Is Your Digital Business Bound To The Internet?

If you start a digital business on the internet, you are bound to generate, store and process information or data. You also want to share information which allows others, preferably your potential target audience or customers to find you on the internet. This is why you should concern yourself with optimising your presence for the search engine. We will focus on two aspects, 1.) on your own website as your property on the internet and 2.) on google as a search engine. Why?

Your Website Is Your Equity And You Need Google

Your website is your equity. Think of it like it is the land you own by leasing it for a long period of time. And google search engine is not the only search engine tool on the internet. However, Google is the most popular search engine. Google has about a market share of 90% globally. There are other search engines like Bing,  Yahoo, Yandex (Russia), Baidu (China 65% of the market share in China), privacy-oriented search engines, such as Duckduckgo and Startpage, Ecosia (profits are used to planting trees).

Google’s mission  is “to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

Remember this!

If you want your content, products or services to be found, you therefore have to be ready to organise your website in a way that allows google to access it. In the other content in this “What is SEO For Digital Business” training series, we will explore the main structure of building your website as an internet property. What Is SEO For Your Website?

When someone searches online, the search engine produces several results on a page which is called SERP – Search Engine Result Page. But still what is SEO for this SERP? SEO allows your content to show up on this page. Remember the search bar on the google main page? Click google.com and you will see it. This is where you enter your search and results show up. With SEO, you can show up there as well for free.

Google filters information using a strategic system and structure to optimise search results. Search results could show up as images, videos, news, maps, shopping, books, flights and finance. So for your digital business, depending on which area you focus on, you can as well target all these to enrich your sites.

3 Major strategies for better SEO.
