How Does The Authentic “YOU” Look Like?

Have you ever asked yourself, Who am I? Is this all there is? Am I authentic to me? These profound questions often emerge when life’s routines no longer bring satisfaction. For Ceri, an Austrian-based Kenyan life coach, this moment of reflection sparked a transformative journey of self-discovery. Today, Ceri shares her story of embracing authenticity, the power of journaling, and how aligning with one’s values can redefine life’s purpose.

A Moment of Realization

One morning, after dropping her kids off at school, Ceri returned to a quiet house. For years, she had followed society’s blueprint—education, marriage, kids, and a stable job. Yet, she found herself asking: Is this all there is? Raised in a Christian family in Kenya, she remembered being taught that everyone has a unique talent and purpose. At 35, however, Ceri realized she had lost touch with herself. She describes this as “living dead inside,” a state where one exists but doesn’t thrive. This moment of self-reflection was the start of Ceri’s self-discovery journey.

The Power of Journaling – Discover The Authentic You!

In her quest to rediscover herself, Ceri turned to personal development and self-discovery journaling. Science supports journaling to reduce stress, boost the immune system, and foster clarity. But for Ceri, it was more than just writing—it was a gateway to understanding her values and reclaiming her authentic self. As Ceri explains, values are like fingerprints— Nobody’s are the same, but you leave them all over everything you do. Identifying her core values helped Ceri align her decisions with what truly mattered to her.

Living by Your Values

Dr. John Demartini, a values researcher, notes that values often arise from voids in our lives. For Ceri, growing up created a focus on nurturing meaningful relationships. Similarly, her constricted upbringing made freedom a cornerstone of her adult life.

“Once you know what’s important to you, you stop living by others’ expectations and start living authentically.” Ceri says, adding that authentic living is at the core of self-discovery.

Overcoming External Expectations

One of the greatest challenges to self-discovery is external pressure—from family, friends, and societal norms. Ceri acknowledges that as a recovering people-pleaser, this was a tough lesson. “People will treat you how you let them,” she advises. Teaching others how to respect your boundaries starts with building self-confidence and self-worth. Surrounding yourself with supportive people who align with your journey is key and that takes you a big step closer to becoming your authentic self.

Ceri’s Mission: Empowering Others

Inspired by her transformation, Ceri created a self-discovery journal that combines reflective prompts with actionable exercises. Her journal has empowered many to uncover their inner truths, embrace healing, and live authentically.“Journaling isn’t just writing—it’s healing,” Ceri emphasizes. By understanding your values and aligning your actions with them, you can create a life that feels fulfilling and true to who you are today—not who you were yesterday.
